Unlike standard relaxation massages, Sports Massage is adaptive: the technique, pressure, and focus areas change depending on whether the treatment is pre-activity (preparation) or post-activity (recovery). Our therapists are trained in sports-specific anatomy and understand the unique demands placed on different muscle groups by various activities.

For pre-activity treatment, the focus is on warming up muscles, increasing blood flow, and enhancing flexibility. The therapist uses brisk, stimulating techniques including rapid effleurage, percussion (tapotement), and dynamic stretching to prepare the muscles for exertion. This type of session typically targets the muscle groups most relevant to your planned activity.

For post-activity recovery, the approach shifts to flushing metabolic waste products (lactic acid, carbon dioxide) from the muscles, reducing inflammation, and preventing delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMS). Slower, deeper techniques are used, including compression, cross-fiber friction, and passive stretching. The therapist works to identify and address any micro-strains or areas of excessive tightness before they develop into injuries.

Key techniques used in Sports Massage include: Muscle Energy Technique (MET) — using the client's own muscle contractions against resistance to improve range of motion; Soft Tissue Release (STR) — specific pressure combined with active movement to target adhesions; Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) stretching — the gold standard of flexibility work; and targeted trigger point therapy for problem areas.
